Thought leadership

Big River is committed to inspiring new ideas. We aspire to change the World and to encouraging education and community consultation. Our purpose is to generate sustainable change across Indigenous ecosystems. We are committed to engaging others in our philosophy and innovative community programs. We aim to create evolutionary advancements in the Social Impact domain by designing a Blueprint incorporating methodologies, processes and guidelines essential to implement them.

Governance and training

We aim to provide capacity building opportunities for Indigenous Australians by creating educational programs in business and governance, housing construction, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. These programs will be designed to strengthen economic participation, Indigenous business leadership and wellbeing. During the next five years, we promise to address the gaps in Indigenous governance, diversity, conflict resolution and decision-making training.

Supporting an Impact Fund

The most pressing social policy area impacting upon Indigenous communities is housing. This is one reason Big River’s work is critical. In 1978, HC “Nugget” Coombs declared, “there is no element in social policy for Aborigines the results of which have been so disappointing and so confusing as that related to housing.”

We are committed to addressing the current housing crisis by designing social impact investment projects targeted to reduce Indigenous disadvantage. We partner with our corporate sponsor Big River Impact Investments Pty Ltd to raise public and private funds for social impact investment projects in cooperation with Indigenous groups.

We have created an innovative model designed to bring together the best of the private sector and the not-for-profit sector to coordinate with governments to create progressive social reform.

The socio-economic framework of our Impact Investment model will be implemented to address local Indigenous economies, and it will focus on raising capital for business enterprises. One long-term benefit of these social investments realised in preparing future generations of Indigenous business leaders.

Supporting a measurement tool

We design social impact goals with Indigenous groups to ensure measurable economic and social benefits flow into our investment projects.
